Fayette Township Trustees have been collecting scrap tires since January of this year – tires they have retrieved from their township roads. They have cleaned up open dumps of tires throughout their township. Trustee, Mike Finley, has lead this cleanup. He was instrumental in applying for Ohio EPA’s state-funded scrap tire cleanup program. To qualify for the program, the collection must contain at least 100 but no more than 5,000 scrap tires. Fayette Township cleanup amounted to over 1,400 tires.
Tires are a nuisance and a public safety concern; also, tires can serve as a breeding ground for disease-carrying mosquitos
This scrap tire remediation program can assist county and local governmental entities by using state contractor’s to remove and dispose of open dumped tires, as in this case of Fayette Township. This did not cost the District or Fayette Township one dime. An excellent program!
